A closer look at the original bond treatment, its limits and the new Nº.3PLUS.
Our assessment
The original Nº.3 is a targeted pre-shampoo treatment to consider for chemically treated or damaged lengths. It adds an extra step and cost, so decide what your routine is missing before buying. This is a desk review of manufacturer information, not a hands-on test.
What it does — and does not do
Olaplex describes the original Nº.3 as a bond-building treatment. It is not a conditioner and is not a treatment for hair loss. You still need to shampoo and condition afterwards.
Before you buy
Olaplex announced Nº.3PLUS as the replacement for the original in October 2026. Check which version a retailer stocks: instructions differ. Follow your own bottle rather than an older online routine.
Who might skip it?
If your main concern is detangling or softness, a suitable conditioner is a simpler starting point. We have not independently verified the manufacturer’s repair claims or compared performance in a controlled trial.
