Moisture, protein or bond repair?
Choose by the problem you can describe: manageability, surface feel or chemical damage. Product categories overlap and none guarantees a permanent reset.
Who this is for: Anyone comparing masks, protein treatments and bond-building products.
Understand the concern
Conditioning aims to improve how the fibre feels and behaves. Protein-containing and bond-marketed treatments can form part of that routine, but a category name alone does not demonstrate a result. Ask about the finished product’s instructions and supporting tests rather than treating all “repair” labels as interchangeable.
Practical steps
- Identify your main complaint: tangling, stiffness, snapping or roughness after processing.
- Try a suitable conditioner as a baseline before layering several intensive treatments.
- If adding a specialist product, follow its timing and keep notes about detangling and breakage.
Expectations and common mistakes
A stiff feel does not by itself diagnose “protein overload”, and stretch tests at home cannot prescribe a treatment. More treatments are not automatically better.
